High School Current Events Writing Prompts

1. Leadership Interview

Interview someone who is involved in the local community in a leadership capacity. This could be a member of city council, a business entrepreneur, or a political/religious leader. Discuss the individual's impact on the community and what he or she is contributing.

2. Current Bill

Research a bill that is being debated in either the House of Representatives or the Senate. Discuss the bill from the perspectives that are for and against it. Finish the essay by taking a position.

3. Current Events Report

Find a current events subject that is not being covered in your local news source and write an article approaching it from a neutral standpoint.
